French Toasted English Muffins

I love French toast, but I have never used English muffins to make it.  This is an ad that was in "Good Food" magazine in November 1988. It looks delicious.

Blue Ribbon Buttermilk Biscuits

"Roll it, pat it, mark it with a B.... for better-than-ever biscuits in 12 minutes!"
That's the claim in this recipe printed in McCall's magazine in February 1996.
They certainly look flaky and delicious.

Kraft Caramel Ad

This is a Kraft Caramel ad from 1978. I remember making caramel apples one Halloween with my mother.
Thanks Mama for such sweet memories.

Woodstock and Pumpkin

I love seeing children when they are coloring.  This picture from my great nephew is going on the refrigerator.

Cool Whip Treatwiches

This is an ad that appeared in Redbook magazine in October 1989. It looks easy and cute.

Storytime with Aunt B - "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear"

This week we are reading "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" and rereading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?".   The books are  written by Bill Martin and beautifully illustrated by Eric Carle.  The repetitive format allows the children to quickly begin participating in the reading.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

Halloween Cookie Cutters

I love vintage cookie cutters, even though I rarely make cut out cookies anymore.  They remind me of  all the wonderful times spent in the kitchen with my mother.

Scaredy Cat Cake

This is a recipe I clipped out of a Redbook in October 1986.  I don't remember using the recipe, but I love the directions for cutting the cake to make the cat.

Sunkist Recipes For Every Day

I love the front and back covers of this old Sunkist cooking pamphlet.  It was copyrighted in 1937 by the California Fruit Growers Exchange in Los Angeles, California. It has loads of recipes in it.

A Night At The Fair

Cars are bumper to bumper as we slowly inch into the parking lot.  The excitement builds as we walk toward the entrance.  The first thing we see is the ferris wheel high in the sky with lights flashing.
Happy squeals fill the air as we stand in lines waiting to ride.

We walk through the agriculture exhibit.   Daddy loved seeing the cows and pigs.  This picture is for you Daddy.

The smells of the onions cooking, the cotton candy spinning, the  peanuts boiling, and the funnel cakes frying all mix together.  Mama always wanted the funnel cake.  This picture is for you Mama.

We hear the game hawkers yelling "Win a big prize!"  Toss a ring over the bowl.  Throw a dart at
the balloon.  Shoot the water to fill the tube.  If you're a child, pick up a duck and win a prize.  Lee loved the games and sometimes would win.  This picture is for you Lee.

The fair is a place for making new memories and remembering old ones.

Storytime with Aunt B - "Jump!'

One of the books we are reading this week is "Jump!" by Scott M. Fischer. This is a book with lots of rhyming words and cute pictures. The kids were laughing out loud as we read.  They wanted to read it over and over and because of the repetition in the book, they were able to read some parts.

Classic Karo Pecan Pie

I clipped this ad out of a McCall's magazine November 1993 edition.  I made the recipe for the family at Thanksgiving several times.  It was delicious and very easy to make.

Carving The Pumpkin

This Norman Rockwell print always evokes memories of family to me.  The pipe reminds me of my father.  I can almost smell the Prince Albert tobacco wafting up.  It makes me want to gather the kids now and carve a pumpkin.

Baker's German Chocolate Cake

This recipe was included in a package of Baker's German sweet chocolate bar.  My mother and I used to bake this cake at Thanksgiving. We would grind the coconut in the filling instead of leaving it as flakes.  Everyone loved it.

Storytime with Aunt B - "Five Little Monkeys"

This week we have been reading and rereading "The Five Little Monkey" books.  They are rhythmic and repetitive and the kids love them.  Their favorites are "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" and "Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed."

Easy Chicken Pot Pie

This is a recipe cut off a Bisquick baking mix box that was in my mother's recipes.  When you have leftover chicken this is an easy and quick recipe to make.

Domino Nut Bread

I love looking through old recipe boxes. You never know what recipes you will find. Almost anything cut off of the food box or bag is good.

Home Baking Made Easy

I love the cover on this 1953 cookbook pamphlet.  I have a stool like the one the girl is sitting on.

Storytime with Aunt B - "Pete the Cat"

I love reading books with the children. They like to point to the pictures and say the words they know.  One of their favorites now is "Pete the Cat  I Love My White Shoes."
No matter what happens, Pete just adapts.

The Long Island Medium

I'm watching the Long Island Medium Teresa Caputo on Live! with Kelly and Michael. All I can say is WOW!  She is amazing.  I do believe that our loved ones are around us. I can't wait to read her new book "There's More To Life Than This."  I've already ordered it and it should arrive tomorrow.
